37 degrees: How to stay cool?!

It’s getting hotter every day. April is the hottest month in Nicaragua. The streets at midday are literally burning. The hottest day should be Thursday this week. Eat and drink right so you can cool down your body at least a little bit!

  1. Eat food that cools you down
Drinks: green tea, limonada or orange juice, add some cilantro or mint.

Fruits: avocados, pineapples, mangos and watermelon.
Vegetables: asparagus, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, broccoli, zucchini and green beans

  2. Avoid food that heats your body up
ginger, curries, chillis, hot peppers and salsas, tomatoes, garlic, onion, beets and spinach, alcohol is warming as well your body up. Use less salt it’s dehydrating too.
  3. Don’t favor ICE COLD drinks
Go for room temperature it will be assimilated into your body much faster and you will feel rehydrated more quickly.

If you cannot handle the heat anymore go and have a drink in an air conditioned place. In León the best place to cool down is definitely the cinema. A short visit in the supermarket also helps sometimes. Besides you can stay at restaurants with AC like the new Pan y Paz (Cathedral), Al Carbon bar, Cafe Guardabarranco, Casa del Cafe, Cafe Libelula, Mc Donalds, Cusco Collao Restaurant, at nighttime: Barbaro, Disco Bohemios, The Reef León and Tropical House Lounge.
